BRYR Youth Club "D-Kittens" show their charitable side

Group organised two charity discos in the Reco for the 10-12 age group.

D-Kittens girls group have been a BRYR youth club for the past four years. There are 9 girls in the club altogether.

During the past year they have organised two charity discos in the Reco for the 10-12 age group and both have been very successful. The first one was held at Christmas and they raised €280 and the second was a Valentine’s disco which raised €300.

They donated the proceeds of the Christmas disco to Ashleigh House which is part of the Coolmine Rehabilitation Centre. Ashleigh House is a new project and it’s for mothers undergoing rehab to have a place to meet their children. When the girls heard that the crèche at Ashleigh House was in need of toys they did a collection in their local area of toys and books. They also donated the money they had raised which the women could use to buy some presents for their children. The picture shows the girls meeting Declan Arthur of Ashleigh House and some of the women who were there at the time.

The top photo shows the girls with John Hickey the CEO of St Vincent’s Foundation. As two of the girls have mothers who are in remission from cancer they wanted the money from their second charity disco to go towards both the treatment of and research into cancer. The money was gratefully received by St Vincent’s Foundation and John Hickey praised the girls endeavours and thoughtfulness.

As the Reco is currently under construction the girls have had to put their highly popular junior discos on hold for the time being but once we are back in the building they will be hosting more charity fundraisers.
