"The Reco Boys" , aged 13-17, have been with the Reco as a group for over a year.
They are currently undertaking a soccer skills programme with local football coach Jimmy Bell. The programme received a health promotion grant from the Local Drugs Task Force which enabled it to go ahead.
The soccer skills programme is a 10 week programme focusing on health, fitness, soccer skills, nutrition and diet. The photos show the lads working on soccer drills with Jimmy over on the Futsal court at Trinity Comprehensive. Other parts of the programme have included trips to the gym where each person had a fitness plan worked out for them, the swimming pool to undertake aqua aerobics, a session on healthy eating and nutrition and also a session on drugs and alcohol. The lads are all keen footballers, which is how the programme came about, with most of them playing for local clubs such as Ballymun United, St Kevin’s and Bohemians.
As well as brushing up on their soccer skills it is hoped the lads will continue to use what they have learnt through the programme and begin to be more aware of what they eat and drink. It is also hoped that they will continue with regular visits to the gym to maintain and improve their fitness levels.
