Junior Cadets
This club has 50 members aged 10 – 12. The programme runs every weekday 5-days a week, after school. There are four sub-groups which each meet twice between Monday and Thursday to take part in a range of developmental and fun activities. Each Friday all 50 members are invited to attend the junior Open Friday, wherein they have access to the entire Reco facilities, including the sports hall, the restaurant, CITY Internet access and a youth club room to relax and play.
Recently all members have been working on a health promotion programme. This has included the group looking at how to keep fit and healthy and what foods are good and bad for you. They have also taken part in the fit for life training which was made up of a range of fun games the young people enjoyed playing, while keeping them fit too.
The group are currently working on a health promotion art display. Each group’s piece will be put on display in the youth restaurant.
Junior cadets open Friday lets the young people choose what they would like to do. All young people have a choice of computers, art, pool and sports.
From this week on, Junior Cadets will be have time allotted to a “homework club” session. For 30 minutes before the young people take part in their planned activity, they will be assisted with their homework.
