Outfit
In September 2008 BRYR started working with the fifth Outfit group.
Outfit is a special project for up to 20 young people, 17-20yrs old. Highly vulnerable and many involved in anti-social or criminal activity, this is a unique youth work project for this target group.
The first "engagement" phase embraces about 100 young people identified through outreach work. During these 6 weeks individuals are identified who have both the willingness to change and potential to commit to the project.
The goal-setting phase stresses intensive relationship-building and setting of realistic goals. It leads into the implementation phase of about 6-7 months, when intensive one-to-one and group work (including 3 weekend residentials) are undertaken. The wind-down phase completes the year and participants' maintain contact through the Outreach Team.
For over 2 years BRYR has gathered substantial impact assessment and programme information with the assistance of external expertise to facilitate a major external evaluation in 2009. This evaluation is expected to show substantial individual and socio-economic benefits from a relatively small investment.
In 2008 we prepared a video about Outfit - This video is available on disk from BRYR at no cost. To request a copy please contact us here
Funding for the first four Outfit intakes came mainly from the Irish Youth Foundation and the Ballymun Local Drugs Task Force. Outfit 5 benefits from exclusive funding from the BLDTF.
