BALLYMUN YOUTH BANK

Just to give you a bit of back ground on youth bank, it was an initiative set up by Ulster bank to give money and decision making power to young people in their own community to bring about positive change. It is supported by the Irish Youth Foundation and the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland.

YouthBank gives us, as young bankers, the opportunity to gain an understanding of the needs of young people and community groups in the area. It allows us to support and fund young people in club and groups. It also gives us the opportunity to further our skills in organisation, communicating, management, leadership, interviews techniques and teamwork. We meet up with other Youth Banks by attending YouthBank forums training events and workshops throughout the year.

We were recruited through the local secondary school and clubs by Youth workers from Ballymun Regional Youth Resource (BRYR). We attend youth bank sessions every Wednesday afternoon in The Reco from 1:30 to 5:30pm. Our hope as YouthBank members is to encourage other young people in the area to apply to us for funding for their club, group or projects they are doing.

Every year we run 2 very successful rounds of grants in the community of Ballymun and we are very interested in getting any questions or feedback from you so we may look at our aims and objectives and use this knowledge to improve our YouthBank and help the community of Ballymun.

If you are interested in joining YouthBank and becoming a member with us, or would like more information on YouthBank and how your group can apply for a grant please don’t hesitate to contact any member of the Ballymun YouthBank in the Reco on 01-8667600 or contact Raychel Keenan (youth bank coordinator) Youth Worker in BRYR or drop by any Wednesday between 1pm and 5pm.

Looking forward to hearing from you……
