How to Become a Volunteer at BRYR?

The Volunteer Support Worker oversees the recruitment and support of volunteers, both within BRYR and with youth groups throughout Ballymun. We also offer supervision and support to students on placement from Leaving Cert Applied, YouthReach, NUI, Maynooth's Diploma in Youth & Community Work and many more.

Sarah, (from Austria), and Nacho (from Spain) are with us thanks to the EVS Programme. For more info on EVS see here

STEP 1 - Meet the VSW: Every potential volunteer or student meets with the VSW to discuss their interest and experience. This meeting helps determine a person's suitability for working with young people, and identify where best to place them. Candidates will be asked to complete the Volunteer Application Form and return it to the VSW.

STEP 2 - Application Form: The information in this form (together with two reference checks) helps determine a candidates's suitability and availability and helps identify the best placement.

STEP 3 - Garda Check: All potential volunteers and students are required to complete a Garda Vetting Form, as a child protection measure. The VSW will show applicants how to complete the form and provide you with a stamped-addressed envelope to post the form when complete. This process is a confidential one, and does take some weeks, so it is advisable to complete the form and the summary covering sheet, and post to the City of Dublin Youth Service Board as soon as possible.

STEP 4 - Reference check: The VSW will contact two referees.

STEP 5 - Plan the placement and get going......

All placements are on a probationary basis to ensure that it is a good match for both the group and the volunteer.
